Rick Ross Announces Debut New Zealand Show This September

27 June 2018 - 0 Comments

Illusive Presents, Frontier Touring and Mai FM are thrilled to welcome one of the biggest names of rap to New Zealand for the very first time. Finally, Grammy nominated rapper and entrepreneur Rick Rossdrops into Auckland to deliver tracks spanning across his incredible career this September.

Miami’s very own Rick Ross is undoubtedly one of the most influential figures to come out of the noughties. With the levying stature of a goliath and the regal standing of a king, Rick Ross has lived up to his prophecy of being The Boss.

Lifted from his debut album Port of Miami, Rick released breakthrough single Hustlin’ in 2006. The track went from a relentless street anthem to a pop culture catch phrase still used today, and earned Ross a record deal with Def Jam. Port of Miami debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts as did Trilla which came less than two years later.

Continuing on his upward trajectory, 2010's critically acclaimed Teflon Don catapulted Ross to international stardom. Just some of the names on the album include Jay-Z, CeeLo Green, T.I., Erykah Badu, Kanye West, Ne-Yo, Diddy, Gucci Mane and Drake. Celebrated tracks from Teflon Don include Aston Martin Music feat. Drake and Chrisette Michelle and B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast) feat. Styles P.

‘His studio albums feel like events that demand the ears and opinions of rap fans.’
– Pitchfork 8/10

‘Ross surrounds himself with big-name guests and pours out smart rhymes over sleek, synth-heavy beats.’
– Rolling Stone

Rick Ross remains one of the most coveted feature artists in hip hop. He’s elevated tracks like DJ Khaled’s We Takin’ Over, Kanye West’s Devil In A New Dress, collaborated with Skrillex on Purple Lamborghini from the Suicide Squad soundtrack, and more recently with Pusha T on Hard Piano from his critically-acclaimed new EP Daytona and Miguel’s track Criminal.

Currently, Rick Ross is cooking up his tenth studio album Port of Miami 2 which is set to drop this year. Not much is known about the release, only that the first taste Florida Boy feat. T-Pain and Kodak Black and last week’s Green Gucci Suit feat. Future are out now.

All eyes are on The Boss when he arrives on stage to drop his countless bangers. In what The New York Times describes as “wrecking ball” mode, no one can hype up a crowd like Rick Ross.

‘The Teflon Don didn't just take the stage. He stole it, broke it into pieces, and shared the loot with his friends.’
– Miami New Times

Don’t sleep on Rick Ross’ debut New Zealand performance. In just a few short months, one of hip hop’s greatest arrives on our shores. Secure your tickets ASAP
