The Outland Sessions are very pleased to present Alice Behind the Eight Ball from the upcoming EP Duskfall. This song was written by Andy Woodd (Cripple Mr Onion) and features Andy on guitar and sharing lead vocals with Andrew Hutchinson, with Bruce Wenzlick (Days of Twelve) on drums and Jake Booth (Team Kill) on bass.
This single is the first taste of the darker and heavier material from this years’ event, the title being a nod to Alice in Chains (when you hear the song you will understand exactly why)"
And here's a blurb about the process from songwriter Andy Woodd:
"The initial idea for this song was to do a downbeat track with my guitar "Eight-ball”, an Ibanez RG450 turned into an eight-string chopper. The riffs/ideas for the song started shaping up around the styles of Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell, and eventually hat-tipped right over into Alice In Chains tribute.
The song theme was one of feeling stuck, worn out, and beaten down by circumstance, wanting to shed the lethargy from that, forgive losses, and move on. Playing that guitar, literally “behind the eight-ball”, feeling that way figuratively, the riff/vocal styles, and the idea of taking learning and discovery from all experience - these resonated into a Lewis Carroll inspired “Behind the Eight Ball, and What Alice Found There”, which shortened into the title.
We tracked instruments on the last day at Outland Sessions, where Bruce and Jake totally captured that overall, over-it vibe; then Andrew and I got the lyrics and vocals down in an after-midnight session late that night with our last reserves of energy - keeping half a head together between us was a real challenge there, but I reckon it brought forth the essence of the song even more."
The full EP that this song will appear on is called Duskfall and will be released next Thursday 12 July.
