Steve Gadd – NZ Tour Twenty Years in the making

10 August 2018 - 0 Comments

Rodger Fox, known for his work bringing jazz giants to New Zealand, has been working on Gadd for quite some time. “It’s taken me 20 years of keeping in contact to be able to host Steve Gadd over here.”

Christchurch Big Band Festival organiser, Judith Bell, is excited that Gadd will headline this year’s event. “Gadd is regarded by many as the world’s number one drummer, which makes this a really exciting event for the New Zealand music community. Every year, the festival attracts musicians from round the South Island for Labour Weekend, and this year I think we’ll see a lot more getting in their cars to come and check Steve out.”

With a resume that’s boasts sessions and tours with the likes of Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, the Bee Gees, Frank Sinatra, Bon Jovi, Chick Corea, Steely Dan, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Al Jarreau, Joe Cocker, Kate Bush and David Sanborn (to name a few), Steve Gadd has put his indelible stamp on rock, jazz, blues, fusion and pop.

Gadd will be joined by James Carter, who has won Downbeat Magazine best baritone saxophonist in the world several years in a row, and New Zealand’s premiere big band, the Rodger Fox Big Band.

Steve Gadd and James Carter will play at the Isaac Theatre Royal with the Rodger Fox Big Band, 7:30pm on Saturday 20 October.
