Katy Perry Auckland Shows This Week

20 August 2018 - 0 Comments

Katy Perry’s Witness: The Tour has come to New Zealand and lands in Auckland tonight! Last here in 2014, the 13 time Grammy nominated artist played two Auckland arena shows that were instant sell-outs.

Witness: The Tour is an imaginative trip from outer-space to inner-space, from the planets to the bottom of our oceans, and a musical journey through Katy Perry’s biggest milestones and mega-hits right up to her latest album. The dramatically original staging means that there isn’t a bad seat in the house, when Katy brings out her band and dancers, along with all the bells and whistles.

Witness: The Tour will be Katy’s first concerts since the sold-out, 151-date Prismatic World Tour, which was hailed by Rolling Stone as “a show to damage retinas and blow minds.”

Paul Dainty, President and CEO of TEG DAINTY promoted Katy’s 2014 Australasian tour and said today, “The response we received from the 2014 tour was phenomenal with Katy performing a staggering 25 shows across Australia and New Zealand. Katy is one of the most powerful entertainers in the world and I am delighted to be promoting her 2018 tour.”

Of the 2014 Prismatic World Tour, the NZ Herald had said it was a ‘Sensory explosion that never lets up…’ and ‘Every song is a hit, and every song feels like an encore…. the lighting show is the best New Zealand has seen in the past five years, and the production surpasses most other megastars'.

With Witness, Katy finds liberation, in the changes in her own life and in the world around her, delivering songs that inspire both thought and movement. The singles released thus far – the Gold-certified Chained to the Rhythm featuring Skip Marley, Bon Appétit featuring Migos and the new single Swish Swish featuring Nicki Minaj – hint at the breadth of the musical and thematic elements found on Witness.

Bon Appétit is officially Katy’s fastest viewed music video of all time with 14.2 million views in the first 24 hours and has now exceeded 190 million! Bon Appétit, which features Atlanta-based hip-hop trio Migos, was co-written by Katy, Max Martin, Shellback, Oscar Holter, Ferras Alqaisi and Migos.

In New Zealand, Katy has enjoyed 9 x No. 1 singles and 4 x top 5 singles. Her singles have achieved 31 x Platinum status in New Zealand with an additional 4 x Gold singles.

Katy made her EMI Music debut with 2008’s One of the Boys after signing to the label in 2007. She cemented her status as a global superstar with the follow-up album, Teenage Dream (2010). PRISM, her 2013 album, debuted at No. 1 on iTunes in 100 countries and has sold more than 12.5 million adjusted albums worldwide. With the singles Firework and Dark Horse each surpassing the 10 million threshold including song sales and streams, Katy is the first female artist to earn two RIAA Digital Single Diamond Awards. In her 10 years with Capitol, she has racked up a cumulative 18+ billion streams alongside worldwide sales of more than 40+ million adjusted albums and 125+ million tracks. Katy Perry recently became the first person on the planet to reach 100 million twitter followers.

This critically acclaimed tour, which has been travelling the world since September 2017, is a dazzling spectacular rivaling Katy’s 2014/2015 Prismatic Tour, which was a global phenomenon!

GRAMMY award-winning artist, DJ, producer and songwriter ZEDD has been confirmed as very special guest at the final shows of the tour in Auckland.

Multi-platinum, GRAMMY award-winning artist/DJ/producer Zedd made his debut with Clarity after signing with Interscope in 2012 and has been breaking down barriers surrounding music genres ever since. His latest single, The Middle with Maren Morris and Grey, was declared “catchy as hell” by MTV and Rolling Stone called it “an infectious earworm.” The track has already amassed over 700 million streams, spent seven weeks at #1 at Top 40 Radio in the U.S. and six weeks at #1 on the Hot AC chart. The Middle is his follow up to his 2017 hit singles Get Low with Liam Payne and Stay with Alessia Cara.

Stay earned Zedd his first #1 at Top 40 Radio and his second GRAMMY nomination. In 2015, Zedd released True Colors, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. Throughout his career, Zedd has worked with a diverse range of artists to create hits, including Hayley Williams on platinum hit Stay The Night, which racked up more than 400 million streams, and Selena Gomez on the platinum track I Want You To Know, which spent four weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

After touring the world, it’s New Zealand’s turn to celebrate the long-awaited return of Katy Perry live on the WITNESS: The Tour with very special guest Zedd.
