Following on from their praised debut album Pretty Lies in 2017, Aaron Carpenter & The Revelators' follow up E.P. Roll With The Punches, is out today.
Of the track Ballad of the Red Sands, he states, "It started as an acoustic song but the band took it to a darker and cooler place. It’s simply a song about missing a friend who disappears into the middle of Australia. Down in the Hole is our hats off to Tom, you can hear his influence in a lot of our music”.
At 3 songs only, the E.P. contains a gritty cover of the Tom Waits track Down in the Hole.
Of the E.P., Aaron Carpenter says "The title track, Roll With The Punches with its lines “swinging from the ropes“ and “wind on our back “, comes from my love of the ocean, and reading about stories of adventure on the high seas - the character in the song is a wild pirate captain who happens to be a woman".
The band is currently preparing a series of shows around NZ called A Tribute To Tom Waits, that sees The Revelators interpret the songwriter’s catalogue and highlight a lot of what has influenced them musically. The show will also include a short set of original songs, to round out a very special evening.
Roll With The Punches is now available on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music and all good digital outlets.
