The Rock is proud to announce multi-platinum selling Kiwi rockers Blindspott will be reforming to perform as the headline act at The Rock 1500’s countdown live event on Friday September 21st, 2018.
Blindspott famously split in 2007, after 10 years together in which they garnered much critical acclaim, a hugely devoted fan-base as well as enduring a few well-publicised fall-outs. The band played their final concert in August 2007 at the Powerstation and haven’t played together since, bar one Homegrown festival gig in 2009. Now, nearly a decade later, the original Blindspott members - Damian Alexander (vocals), Marcus Powell (guitar, backing vocals), and Shelton Woolright (drums) - are getting the band back together.
Vocalist Damian Alexander says: “I’ve been waiting a long time for this day... it will be a defining moment in the history of Blindspott.” Guitarist Marcus Powell has been revisiting the Pro Tools sessions and building new click tracks in advance of The Rock 1500 show. He says: “I remember how intense some of these tracks are and I’m excited to put a new spin on them. This show is going to be loud.” Drummer Shelton Woolright agrees, saying: “I’m looking forward to jumping back up onstage with the boys and smashing out one of the hardest sets this country’s seen in a few years. Sh*t’s about to go down.”
The Rock’s annual 1500 Countdown is one of the highlights of the station’s year and spans three weeks on-air, kicking off on Monday September 3. After honouring the top 1500 rock songs for 2018 as voted by Rock listeners, the countdown culminates in a huge free live ceremony and concert celebration at The Powerstation in Auckland.
Brad King, The Rock Content Director says: “The Rock is incredibly proud to have played a small part in the discussions that have brought the original Blindspott line-up back together after 10 years for this massive event on September 21. This year’s Rock 1500 concert is going to be a special occasion and you'll be kicking yourself if you don't get a ticket.”
The Rock 1500 live event kicks off at 3pm on Friday September 21st at The Powerstation. Tickets for this massive show are strictly limited and can only be won by listening to The Rock.
