Earlier this year, independent singer
songwriter Louis Baker released his soul-fuelled, introspective groover Black Crow. Now he reveals a tech house dance remix by NZ based UK Producer and DJ, Dick Johnson.
Johnson's remix starts with a thumping, four-to-the floor drum groove, and soft synths
that weave around Louis’ smoky verse vocal. The song gradually ascends as
the energy builds to a breakdown, where a tape delayed vocal hook is
repeated. Then, an alarm like melody soars over top as moog synth lines
develop until an almighty analog bass drop hits you right where it counts, and
explodes on a frenzy for the remaining duration of the record.

"I've been wanting to
work with Louis for a few years now and when I heard Black Crow I knew it would
really suit a house remix. I premiered this at the 121 Warehouse Rave a few
weeks back in Wellington and the place went crazy" – Dick Johnson
Black Crow (Dick
Johnson Remix) is sure to be a dance floor heavy hitter this
summer having garnered support from some of New Zealand's biggest DJ’s already.
"Love how Dick
weaves his unique house groove and raw synth sounds in between the soulful
vocals and dub melodies of Louis Baker... what a tune!" – Dan Aux
“A little birdy (or should
I say a little crow) told me that this remix was in the works and I was pretty
damn excited. One of my favourite voices teaming up with one of my favourite
producers; needless to say I’ve been waiting (not very patiently) for this.
Dick Johnson’s gone and delivered well past my expectations - got the shoulders
shimmying in the intro, then boom, the drop takes your breath away! It's filthy
and massive and I want it in my ears at all times”. - Aroha Harawira
“Like a fine wine pairing. Dick Johnson once again bringing the Midas touch to
the smooth vocals of one of NZ’s talents” - Jay Bulletproof
