Yukon Era release brand new video for 'Knife Skies'

28 September 2018 - 0 Comments

"The band blend the feral bite of IDLES or Shame with rhythmic complexity, an awareness of math-rock fringes that includes names such as Don Caballero". - Clash Magazine on Yukon Era's new single Knife Skies

Yukon Era are currently on tour in New Zealand, following their The Great Escape appearances and UK/AUS tours.

Knife Skies is out now and available on all DSPs.

"This project with Yukon Era was a challenging yet super rewarding one to be part of. The idea was to have our lead character/dancer represent the counter culture/ arts communities with-in society, he's a physical representation of the struggle that most creatives face on a day to day basis." - Taylor Mansfield (Director)

"For me it’s not super easy to pinpoint what I’m feeling sometimes. When I wrote the lyrics for 'Knife Skies' I was in a bit of a downward spiral. Everything I thought about doing, every possibility, felt as if it would fall apart if I embraced it. But feelings like that can’t be just summed up through words and in hindsight that song really taught me how important the act of singing/saying something out loud is. I know that for so long I wrote and wrote words, thinking it’d help me figure out what I was feeling crushed by. But it’s the act of singing/yelling, (whatever you want to call it) that helps me the most. The physical excursion of words is what helps lift the weight off for me. 'Knife Skies' taught me that in some weird way. If you are feeling crushed by life just scream or yell or sing, even if what you are saying isn’t making sense to you then, it might later on." - Christian Dimick (Yukon Era)

Freshly home and rested from a whirlwind tour of Australia and the UK, Yukon Era have teamed up with Palmy natives Soda Boyz for an 7 date tour spanning the length of the country.

The two groups are promoting their newly pressed 7" split record through Auckland label Prison Tapes, which features Yukon Era's Adapt and Soda Boyz' Renamon. Both tracks are physical only at this point, and can only be heard on the record (and live, of course!).

29/09 - Wellington - Caroline
30/09 - Palmerston North - The Stomach

Carving out a name for themselves within the local and international post punk music scenes as the youngest band to perform at Australasia's most iconic festival St Jerome’s Laneway, as well as creating the Auckland's coolest all-ages festival Ageold, the boys have extensively toured NZ as headliners, as well as notching up opening slots for big international acts including Mac Demarco, Japandroids, Viet Cong and METZ. Having recently completed a 15 date NZ/AUS tour, selling out four shows in NZ in support of their latest single Tongue, which reached #3 on the NZ Alternative charts, while their first two EP's garnered attention and praised from the likes of Noisey, Tone Deaf, Impose Magazine, Sniffers, and The Wireless.

Named as one of the Top 8 Kiwi guitar bands by Impose Magazine, which praised them for their “old-fashioned rock and roll cut from the same cloth as Polvo and Fugazi – embedded with a hint of classic kiwi jangle. A post-punk band on the rise, with the confidence and skill to make it big.”

Yukon Era's songs are loud and melodic, quiet and chaotic. The band have created a modern and polished sound which they deliver via stubborn-ly classic garage rock. In the flesh Yukon Era's greatest asset might the bands ability to convey their well crafted tunes via a set brimming with youthful confidence to form something truly endearing, energetic and exciting.

The Auckland, New Zealand based post-punk quartet have released two well crafted EP's to critical acclaim - their first self titled EP (2016) their second EP - Consume & Scratch released in late 2016. Their debut full length is set for release in early 2019.

With more recent international performances including this year’s Great Escape festival, Yukon Era are aiming high and it’s clear that the young band is set to make set to make their mark on the international music scene... watch this space!
