Country first, then Pavarotti

Kiwi country music fans are in for a treat in November when the Norfolk Island Country Music Association stages a reunion concert in Pukekohe south of Auckland.

Fireworks-aplenty are promised at the Guy Fawkes’ Day event which takes place just a week before the Luciano Pavarotti farewell tour concert at North Harbour stadium on November 12.

The country music concert showcases some of the top New Zealand acts that have performed at the renowned Norfolk Island Country Music Festival during the past 13 years.

In conjunction with the NICMA committee, the concert is co-ordinated by Rob Galley of the Galleyslaves and renowned country music performer Joy Adams.

New Zealand artists have a proud record in the hotly contested Norfolk Island singing contest as evidenced by the line-up for the Pukekohe concert.

Performers include past Trans-Tasman Entertainers of the Year Paul Sharplin, Cameron Clayton and JamesRay Still and a runner up, Leanne Cryer.

The guest artist list rivals a Kiwi best-of compilation record cover. It includes country stalwarts Brendan Dugan, Gray Bartlett, Dennis Marsh and Joy Adams as well as Melissa Daisley, Nick and Tracey Maree Houia, Rosemarie Hack, Ritchie Pickett and Marian Burns.

Performers are backed by the Galleyslaves with The Reidy Sisters providing backing vocals.

What a music week in Auckland it will be. Country first, then the farewell tour concert of the world’s greatest living tenor.
