It’s been 5 years since they last toured together, and this year they are competing head-to-head as finalists for a Vodafone New Zealand Music Award. As part of the final 3 artists selected in the 'Best Roots' category, it’s anybody’s guess as to who will take it out, after all, both Sons of Zion and Tomorrow People have been dominating their respective fields for the better part of the last 5 years. BBQ Reggae (2018) was a #1 album (Official NZ Top 40) for Wellington based Tomorrow People, while Sons of Zion’s single Drift Away (2018) sat at #1 on the radio airplay charts for a number of months.
Despite the fact that there can only be one winner on November 15th, the two heavyweight bands have joined forces to collaborate and deliver a six-show summer tour spanning not only New Zealand, but kicking off in the beautiful Cook Islands.
The summer tour will visit the following areas:
Fri 7th Dec at Rehab, Rarotonga
Fri 28th Dec at Bev Ridges on York, Napier
Sat 29th Dec at Waihi Beach Hotel, Waihi
Thu 3rd Jan at Opononi Hotel, Opononi ft. Laughton Kora
Fri 4th Jan at Ruakaka Tavern, Ruakaka
Sat 5th Jan at The Delta, Turangi ft. Laughton Kora
Joining the bands on support is rising star Victor J Sefo, a solo reggae artist who in the last 2 months has amassed over 1 million streams and views of his 2 singles Wifey and Naughty Girl. To add to the impressive line-up, the team have added the hugely successful Laughton Kora to the bill for 2 of the shows.
