After dropping five singles featuring an A-list of Kiwi vocal talent including SWIDT, Melodownz and JessB, Auckland's dynamic electronic hip-hop four-piece Yoko-Zuna release their sophomore LP Voyager. Out today on limited edition double LP and on digital platforms, Voyager is a sixteen track epic that features the in-album magic of the live P-Money collaboration The Lovecraft Mixtape, and as-yet unheard tracks with Ladi6 and Noah Slee.
"We went into recording this album with two concepts in mind," says drummer Swap Gomez. "That it was going to be the biggest project yet, and that it was going to be kind of a finale for this four year, multiple project saga. This was going to be the culmination of that whole time period."
"It's been really cool to piece all of it together, piece the album together as a whole thematic thing, as well as with the past projects, and this Yoko-Zuna 'world' we've been making for the last four years."
Fans don't need to worry that this is the end of Yoko-Zuna. The release of Voyager is a milestone project band, but they're already working on new projects, such as their video series Yoko Eats, as well as brand new music, some of which will be debuted at the album release shows.
The first album release show is tonight at Wellington's San Fran with support from locals Borrowed CS and Martyn Pepperell plus live visuals.
The Auckland gig will take place at Raynham Park Studio on Auckland's K Rd on Friday 30 November and will feature live strings and guest collaborations and 360 degree live visuals. Tickets for both shows are available at Eventfinda and on the door.
