Taupo-based songwriter Dan Sharp is proud to release his latest single, Satellites, a liquorish-smooth track which reflects on the trials of being away from loved ones in pursuit of a dream.
“Satellites is a song that grew out of always saying ‘goodbye’, and being away from home a lot in pursuit of success. It first manifested as a realisation that the best case scenario for me, 'success', will result in me away even more. There’s not a visible 'end date' which puts strains on relationships and instantly sacrifices and compromises need to be made. While it’s a sad reflection on having to be connected via phones and the internet while apart (ie. Satellites) there is still a hopefulness to it...
“The song took on a whole new meaning for me as I recently travelled around the UK and Europe on my own, writing and recording new songs. It was amazing, but it really hit me that ‘success’ means more time away from home and loved ones, and there’s a bitter-sweetness to it” - Dan Sharp
The track, produced by award-winning singer-songwriter Thomas Oliver in his Berlin studio, featuring keys and synths from Wellington-based Ed Zuccollo (TrinityRoots), follows on from the Trans-Tasman success of Dan’s most recent single, Lifeline, which was described by Happy Mag as “Authentic, warm and deeply infectious”.
Dan serves up honest, hard-hitting and impactful tunes with blues-tinged and soulful lyrics, and a gritty combination of vocals and guitar. He’s set to hit the road in February for an extensive summer tour of Aotearoa. He joins fellow songwriter Ciaran McMeeken for four shows; Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
