Music News - Indigo Switches Ownership Again

02 April 2002 - 0 Comments

Less than four months after he sold his share in Wellington's Indigo Bar (and its parent company Step Up Productions Ltd) to Indigo founder Adrian MacKenzie, Stephen Upton has now brought Adrian's shares to become the sole shareholder and director of Step Up Productions Ltd as of 1 April 02. Upton, fresh from his first holiday in five years, says that MacKenzie 'made me an offer I couldn't refuse'. MacKenzie himself is now looking to take his first holiday 'in quite a long time' and intends to return to the music scene after that.

As for the future of Indigo, Upton says the next six months will realise some tremendous developments, cementing it as one of the top venues of its size in New Zealand for all genres. "In buying Step Up Productions outright, I've made a minimum three year commitment to developing both the company and the New Zealand music industry; to help realise the tremendous potential that exists within our shores. Year by year in multiple industries, it becomes increasingly obvious that New Zealanders are some of the most creative people in the world."
