Music News - Radio One's longest-standing DJ celebrates 20 years on-air

30 August 2005 - 0 Comments

At the beginning of this year, Otago University's student radio station, Radio One, celebrated its 21st anniversary.

This week, the station celebrates another milestone as announcer James Dignan hosts a show to commemorate twenty years as a DJ at the station. As far as records allow us to say for certain, he is the longest-serving on-air announcer on any of New Zealand's student radio stations.

James had his first show on September 21st 1985, at which time the station was less than two years old. Since that time, he has hosted a variety of shows at the station, starting with a weekly mid-afternoon slot, and in recent years hosting The Atmospheres show 8 -10 am on Sunday mornings. Along the way he has made a huge contribution in many roles at the station.

This Sunday, September 4th, between 6 and 8 pm James will host a commemorative show in which he will take listeners back to the early days of the station, playing a selection of music entirely from 1984 and 1985
