Melbourne’s Cable Ties are stoked to announce headline Aotearoa New Zealand shows this February and March, and drop a blistering remix of Choking to Choose, hand flipped and crafted by audio-visual two piece, and musical geniuses, friendships. Having recently been announced as part of the first lineup on annual music festival and conference The Great Escape in Brighton (UK) in May, these Aotearoa New Zealand shows will be Cable Ties’ first time over the pond, with local supports to be announced.
Choking to Choose (friendships Remix) is five minutes of high hats and thumping bass, chopped up vocals and rolling synths, pieced together in a way that could soundtrack your time travel as easily as it could a recurring dream. Visually it tells a similar story – psychedelic imagery of the band’s distorted faces showered with floating particles. Choking to Choose (friendships Remix) is available to watch now and will be available on all streaming services this Friday December 14.

Cable Ties - Jenny McKechnie (vocals/guitar), Shauna Boyle (drums) and Nick Brown (bass) - are frenetic lead lines backed by a hypnotic rhythm section. Welding punk ferocity that extends to kraut and boogie, they stretch songs past breaking point, searching for that joyous rush. McKechnie channels her struggles into songs that resonate beyond like-minded punks, she gives a voice and language to feelings that are deeply embedded in modern existence. Shauna Boyle and Nick Brown's rhythm section relentlessly hammer out a bedrock for McKechnie's guitar pyrotechnics and vocal wallop. They're three friends summoning a rhythmic tide to deliver anthems that turn latent anxieties into a rallying cry.
They've spent the better part of the last 12 months touring - including shows in Europe / the UK with Jen Cloher and Gold Class, and an Australian tour with Cash Savage and the Last Drinks - with an electrifying live show that earned them nominations for 4 x National Live Music Awards and a Music Victoria Award for 'Best Live Band' this year. Having played from their debut self-titled album and Tell Them Where To Go/ Choking To Choose 7”, the former of which has been included in JUNKEE’s Best Songs of 2018, Cable Ties are armed with a fistful of new songs and are ready to share them, and their electrifying live show, with the world.
