Now officially in its 50th year of independent broadcasting, 95bFM is delighted to announce some seismic additions to the lineup of 95bFM GOLD - the station’s anniversary celebrations at Auckland’s Powerstation, Friday February 15.
Coco Solid (acclaimed musician, writer and artist Jessica Hansell) has been making her mark on the 95bFM airwaves since the early 2000's. Last year was no different, with a number of high-rotate cuts on-air from both her mixtape Cokes and the debut full-length from family rap ensemble Fanau Spa, of which Hansell is a member. With Coco Solid live shows being somewhat of a rarity, 95bFM can’t wait to see this constant station favourite.
When The Original World Famous True School Hip Hop Show was announced as performing at 95bFM GOLD, they warned “this won't just be retro shit!”. Now revealing the decades-spanning collection of lyricist royalty joining them in this one-off appearance, the True School have lived up to their promise.
Featuring Guest MCs:
Mareko - Dam Native - SWIDT - Melodownz - Diggy Dupe
Church & AP - IMAGE - Rei - Lukan Raisey
Manning the decks behind this stellar vocal talent will be founding DJs Philip ‘Sir-Vere’ Bell [O.N.Z.M.], Robin ‘Base’ Paratene and Mark ‘Slave’ Williams, with current True School hosts Ev Love, GetBan and Barry Bonza, in what promises to be a truly legendary set in honour of the game-changing radio show.
Coco Solid and the True School guest MCs join two previously-announced acts on the 95bFM GOLD bill. Wellington’s Beastwars have teased the chance to hear new material alongside their sludge rock classics and Miss June will show why they’ve had eager punters lining the streets at recent shows.
95bFM General Manager Caitlin McIlhagga says:
“We can’t wait to start our 50th anniversary year off by celebrating with our listeners and these awesome artists. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that keeping a station like bFM running can be a challenging business, which makes us extremely grateful to both the artists who are supporting us by performing, and each and every listener who buys a ticket to join the party.”
With just four weeks to go, music fans and supporters of independent media should head to aaaticketing.co.nz ASAP to make sure they're part of this historic event.
