George (Georgia Lines) follows up her debut single release, which premiered through Spotify’s New Music Friday and Apple’s Best of the Week playlists on Friday, with the mesmerizing new music video for Vacant Cities which releases today.
Taking inspiration from the world of visual arts and the natural beauty of Auckland’s rugged West Coast beaches, this poetic take on the singles’ themes of individuality and courage-of-self are bought to life through symbolic choreography and dramatic pops of colour. The resulting piece is a work of art, and a perfect juxtaposition to the slick R&B-tinged pop groove of the track. It is something George is particularly proud of.
“The video captures something so magical”, George explains, “The performers in the clip represent clones of each other, copying styles and movement, wearing similar or the same thing. The growing contrast between them shows the beginning of an internal journey and the search for something new.”
The clip was made with the support of NZ On Air, directed and produced by Cam Neate and styled by Olivia Renouf. Despite the original shoot being postponed due to an epic electrical storm, the rescheduled date did not compromise the end result. “Everyone working on the set was so excited by what unfolded, the magic we captured and how it all came together”, Georgia states. “I am so excited to reveal this video to the world!”
Starting the year with her festival debut at this years’ R&V Festival in Gisborne, George’s debut single Vacant Cities further marks what is sure to be a huge year for this Mt Maunganui based singer-songwriter. Expect more music and live performances from George in 2019.
Vacant Cities is out now through Spotify, Apple Music and iTunes.
