Oakley Grenell Christchurch’s Jungle Jazz producer has released his debut CD called Jaded EP on Central Records, under the title O.G.
O.G. has been producing his Jungle Jazz style since 2000 and in this time he has released the single and video for ‘2 The Dayz’, formed a 5 piece band to play the tracks live, recorded his first EP and made his second video, a live version of the title EP track ‘Jaded’.
O.G. has performed all over New Zealand, playing support for well-known acts like the Nomad, Salmonella Dub and Mike Knock. He has played at Orientations, The Gathering, Soulstice, Destination, as well as numerous local dance parties and his own gigs. In 2001 O.G. was also asked to perform at the Christchurch Arts Festival to a full theatre and had to turn 100 people away.
The 6 track Jaded EP, includes the singles and QuickTime videos for ‘Jaded’ and ‘2 the Dayz.’ The CD also includes a ‘Jaded Remix’ by producer the Nomad.
During 2002 O.G. will be touring New Zealand to promote the Jaded EP, the ‘Jaded’ video will be released for national Television airplay alongside the release of the Jaded EP, and O.G. has started work for the full-length album.
Both the Jaded EP and the album will be released on Oakley’s own, newly formed record label, Central Records and distributed through Border Music Ltd. Central Records have more projects to release in 2002, mainly focusing on original, Aotearoa flavored music with soul. Already 3 of the tracks of the Jaded EP have been included for 3 separate compilations.
Oakley Grenell is a Christchurch Jazz School Scholarship Graduate of Guitar. He is a member of the highly popular reggae band Bunyip and also recently formed the group the Otautahi Allstars who’s debut Album will be out this year on Central Records. Oakley is a full time music teacher at Aranui High School.
