Fronted by singer/songwriter/drummer Nicole Schaap, Moonflower is a new soulful, retro-inspired rock band based in Rolleston, a town south-west of Christchurch. Brilliant multi-instrumentalists Josh Fairless (Guitar), Damon Thurlow (Bass) and Ethan Bryant (Keys) make up the rest of Moonflower. The four have been hard at work for the past year, practicing, gigging and recording their debut album named Dark Lullabies. After eight long days in the famous Sitting Room (Lyttleton), the ten track album was recorded. There are currently two singles from this album available on Spotify, iTunes and many more sites. CD's will also be available at Pennylane Records from March 23rd.
Front woman Nicole writes songs with deep meanings and societal messages often about animal rights and the environment. The band’s sound is influenced by 60's and 70's classic rock, soul, and has a dark, heavy twist. Moonflower’s live shows usually include a few classic covers from greats like Jefferson Airplane, James Brown and Cream.
The almost sold out album release show is at Lyttleton Records on March 23rd with guests from Dunedin Pottley and Red. Following the release, the band are planning shows in towns around the South Island to promote the album.
