After 7 years pondering and 2 years in production, Jan Hellriegel is very pleased to announce the release of Sportsman Of The Year - A Suburban Philosophy, her 4th studio album, with a unique twist: Sportsman Of The Year will also be available as a beautifully produced book with photos, and 12 chapters based on the stunning new collection of songs.
“Sportsman of the Year is a ‘musical in a book’” says Jan. “The book grew out of my album project when I realised the songs were taking a more philosophical, personal direction. I wanted to share some stories in parallel with the music, each informed by the other.”
Jan says Sportsman of the Year is about finally arriving at a place where she can look back at failures, disappointments and rejections with a sense of accomplishment and pride, knowing that without them she wouldn't be doing what she is today. It is about following your dreams and never giving up.
Jan enlisted long time friend and collaborator, Wayne Bell to produce the album with Oliver Harmer on engineer duties at The Lab Studios. Mixed by Daniel Denholm at Point Blank Studios in Sydney, Harmer resumed involvement with mastering.
Jan Hellriegel is a New Zealand songwriter, performer, producer, music publisher, business owner, mother, and now, author. She is also a passionate advocate for local music artists and the protection of their works and rights, and a noted music copyright expert.
Sportsman of the Year - A Suburban Philosophy will be officially available for purchase on April 29th with pre-sales available now from Jan's website and from selected retailers. The album will be released digitally on May 12th, Mother’s Day.
