The D4 Report From USA/UK Tour
The D4

05 April 2002 - 0 Comments

Since heading for the USA and the UK, The D4 have been having the times of
their lives. They have also created a fair bit of noise wherever they go.
Infectious Records have received compliments from Poptones/Hives boss Alan McGee - who wrote personally to Infectious to congratulate them on a really great album. The band have been interviewed for a feature in Kerrang!
magazine and have been played on nationwide UK radio shows such as Steve Lamacq's Radio 1 Evening Session and Zane Lowe's 'Remote Control' on XFM.

What else? They've had people dance naked onstage & procreating in their audience...oh, and they met Liam Gallagher the other night.

Here's a few excerpts from Jimmy D4's tour diary:

USA -- March 12-25th -- 'It's all about the merch, glass and nudity'

"Ok, so following the drunken nude blast that was the SXSW festival we
headed up to Memphis, where we hung out with some very cool people (found a bed for the night, well 2 nights! as soon as we arrived by wandering by chance into the right record store. Hahah that stuff always works out for this band) Visited the legedary Sun Studio and kissed Elvis' mike. (ooer)

Headed up through to Tennessee where we stumbled upon the largest Firworks Factory in the World!! so we of course, loaded up on firecrackers, ah firecrackers, the highlight of my youth. Proceeded to terrorise the rest stops of the south for the rest of the trip.

Played a show in Knoxville with some friends of ours we had met in Texas,
the Deadly Snakes and the Cherry Valance. Sold loads of merch..the next night found us in Raleigh North Carolina where we busted onto a bill 'Hi we're from NZ! Can we play? Can we borrow your gear??'. Ended up playing just before the main band to about 150/200 people and again, the gig rocked and the merch flew.

To Virginia then, via the most disgusting resturant surely the world has to offer, and recorded with Steve Baise (ex-Devil Dogs), a true kindred spirit. That night saw the gig of the tour thus far, playing with the the realest, most dangerous band I think we have ever met, the CandySnatchers. The club
was heaving and the bottles were flying. At the end of our set I swear the place was ankle deep in broken glass. The barman sold out of beer, we sold out of merch and my SG got smashed into peices.."

TO THE UK - FU MANCHU nationwide tour support

"England has been a blast. Our feet have barely touched the ground and
Manchester and Glasgow went very well.

Threatened by an attendant in the Midlands that he would 'turn off the
pumps' if we didn't stop playing blazing guitar solos on our minature Marshall amps in the forecourt but otherwise no troubles.

Last night was the Astoria, an amazing venue stacked full of punters and despite the fact we had driven 9 hours to get there we were floating on air and had a great gig which seems to have been very well received. Hung out with Jake (old D4 bass player, now resident in UK) and were taken out to dinner by the lovely Infectious Crew where we proceeded to get extremely pissed on Sake and beer, and then to the Metro bar (where we played a sold out show tonight)

I shook Liam Gallagher's hand and mumbled incoherently at him and he to me as he looked as smashed as I felt. Vaughan and Beaver had a blast and we lost Dion. He showed up earlier with tales of wandering London, being kicked out of a cab for not being able to speak and finally checking himself into a hotel god knows where..so we are back in one piece and about to sound check..."

The next night the guys played a hot, sweaty sell out club show at the Metro supporting the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (a hugely hyped/tipped band from NYC)...more from Jimmy:

"Last night at the Metro was really good, it went down a treat and was probably the best show of the tour thus far. Some guy took some pics you can check out here http://www.underexposed.org.uk if you wanna."

The band have had a few days recovery and press now before the next show at the Monarch in Camden,
London on Wednesday UK time, followed by the remaining England dates:

APRIL
3rd GIG - The Monarch, London (supporting Reuben)
13th GIG - venue TBA, Birmingham (D4 Club show)
10th GIG - Upstairs At The Garage, London (with The Datsuns)
