It is a sign of changing times as the Big Day Out '06 will not have a hip-hop stage as per last year, but instead the hip-hop acts will be merged in with the other acts and the extra stage will instead be solely for New Zealand-based acts.
The fifth stage will be known as The Boost Mobile Local Produce Stage and is aimed at providing a platform for up-and-coming local artists. Auckland BDO promoter Campbell Smith describes it by saying, "The Big Day Out has always been about giving people the chance to discover something new and the Boost Mobile Local Produce stage is a key part of that. We can throw some exciting new acts in there that hopefully will be bigger names in the future."
More details of what acts will be playing on the Local Produce Stage are expected in the second artists announcement on Wednesday, November 16.
