Kiwi singer-songwriter
Abby Christo today announced her brand-new single,
Body Language, set
to release on September 12.
Originally one half of the successful country music duo
Mae Valley, Christo broke out as a solo artist in 2017, her first single
Kiss Me into Monday reaching half a million streams
and climbing the Australian country charts.
Written earlier this year,
Body Language was born out of personal circumstances for Christo.
“
Body Language is about reflecting on a previous relationship
and wishing you’d seen the signs of it failing, before it gets to the brutal breakup. I’m a very open book and this shows in my song-writing. I usually struggle to get into my creative headspace so soon, but it all felt so real, so this was almost my
way of dealing with everything,” she says.
“It wasn’t a bitter breakup, but I’d best describe
Body Language as sweet but frustrating. It sums up the relationship.”
Having risen to prominence in 2015 as a finalist on
The X Factor NZ with
Mae Valley, Christo was signed with Sony Music, scoring a number
#1 Country radio hit in Australia and pop-radio impact in New Zealand as well as an EP that topped the New Zealand iTunes chart.
Mae Valley also opened for Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood’s stadium tour, while also performing at Kelsea Ballerini’s
iHeartRadio Kiwi showcase.
Mae Valley parted ways in early 2017, Christo deciding to pursue a solo career and write her own songs, splitting time between New Zealand and Australia to do so.
Her first single
Kiss Me into Monday was
a dreamy pop-country anthem released internationally via Sony Music’s global independent distribution powerhouse, The Orchard, in April of this year. To date, it’s had half a million streams on Spotify and continues to climb the Australian country music
charts.
In May, Christo also traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, where she spent time writing and recording with incredible songwriters including Josh Kerr who has worked with Kelsea Ballerini and Keith Urban as well as Phil Barton who’s worked
with Lee Brice and Eli Young Band.
Body Language was co-written by Australia’s Peter Holz earlier this year. It’s the first of several songs recorded by Christo for an upcoming album.
Body Language is
available to purchase and stream from Thursday September 12th.
