Who and what is Channeled?
Channeled is the project lead by singer-songwriter Ben Ruegg. It is the
name that expresses what the music allows him to do; channel his emotions and
energy and express it through music. Having used his name for his music
in the past, Ben decided to find a name that connects with the music. Channeled is this name.
Over the last 3 years, Ben has been working at creating an album that truly
represents the music he loves. Inspired by artists like Incubus, Korn,
Foo Fighters and Tool (just to name a few), Ben has spent a lot of time
crafting songs that truly connect with his feelings and allows him to express
himself fully.
Having suffered from anxiety and depression over the last 5 years, recently a
change occurred which resulted in a lot of real music pouring out. In order to
capture it and get it right, he has invested in new gear, a lot of time and
money in order to really capture how he has been feeling. When you listen
to the album, you can hear heart, soul, and passion.
The album is 11 tracks long, featuring 1 instrumental and 1 short
interlude. The album is a concept album from start to finish.
Kicking off with Bring It Back Again, Ben is writing about how rock needs to
come back and questions what we have done to kill it off. From there, the
album follows a path down the road of self-destruction and redemption.
Deeper, Just Say It and The Angel are all songs that deal with personal
struggles. Why do we always build things up in our head, not take help
when its right there and allow ourselves to keep tripping up?
Filled with songs that talk about a range of emotions and situations drive the
narrative forward, building up to the middle of the album where it takes a turn
and the road to recovery begins, even though it is still dark, hard and
long. After a complete breakdown of all that has happened before, the
last two tracks set the scene for a fresh start and a new lease on life. As an arc, the album builds up and pays off. Having been expertly recorded,
mixed and mastered by Ben Ruegg in his bedroom, the final result is an album
which sounds commercially viable, like something you would hear on the radio.
"Deeper is an authentic revelation for Ben; it's thought-provoking,
intense and powerful. While it was crafted from a personal battle, it also honors
the final outcome - triumph. Deeper is one outstanding release which Ben should
very rightly be proud of." - Muzic.net.nz,
review of the song Deeper
The album is out 2nd of December, or get yourself an advance copy by backing it on Kickstarter.
