Te Papaioea via Poneke electronic pop band Sports Dreams are chuffed to release their second single Drive. The track will be released on Friday September 27 via Papaiti Records, before the band play shows in Wellington, Auckland and Palmerston North to celebrate.
Drive is about recognising your mistakes, but also recognising where your culpability ends. The repeated refrain of 'I go too fast sometimes, but it's not me who drives you/you get too close sometimes, I put all my trust in you' sails over waves of synth in a blissfully melancholic chorus.
First single, the eponymous Sports Dreams, reached #1 on alternative radio station Radio Control. The EP elicits vivid vignettes of North Island road trips in a "hazy time-lapsed sonic reflection" (Undertheradar); conjuring images of late afternoon sun on the Paekakariki stretch of State Highway 1. Made up of Shannen Petersen (Fruit Juice Parade) and Fraser Williams (First Move), the band was initially formed in Palmerston North, but is now spread between there and Wellington.
