Auckland rapper Mainard Larkin, better known as Randa, is proud to present new single Toughen Up.
Toughen Up follows hot on the heels of June’s Rock Bottom, the video for which, directed by Vision Thing, has been nominated for Best Video at the New Zealand Music Awards. Watch Rock Bottom HERE. Rock Bottom signalled Randa’s return to recording after a couple of years off, and was greeted enthusiastically by their fans, reaching the Top 10 in the Alternative radio charts.
Like its predecessor, Toughen Up was produced by Shannon Fowler (Tom Lark). Randa says of the song: “Toughen Up explores themes of mental health, the internal / external pressures of feeling like it's not okay to feel weak or depressed during challenging times. This song dives into the state of chaos which ensues when one tries to fight off their natural vulnerabilities. Musically inspired by Kelis and The Beastie Boys, lyrically inspired by societal outlooks regarding unpleasant emotions.”
Randa is celebrating the release of Toughen Up with a free launch show at Auckland’s Cupid Bar on Oct 11th.
