A fresh take on current events, Cool Down draws inspiration from Seth’s Polynesian heritage and calls attention to the effects of rising tides on the islands.
The song delivers a powerful message, brilliantly realised with compelling lyrics, crisp R&B beats immersed with Polynesian-instrumentation and a chorus, which simply soars with the sublime vocals of Seth and one of Aotearoa’s most well-known artists, Stan Walker.
Self-produced by Seth, Cool Down features a number of instruments, which are unique to the Pacific, including Pahu (made of native wood and shark skin) which gives a low pulse like a heartbeat; Pate and Rakau, which offer higher tones and can be heard as textured drum lines and the Hue Puruwai, which forms a shaker pattern that sounds like flowing water.
Cool Down follows the May release of Seth’s last single All For You. Listen here.
It has been eight years since Seth emerged from the local music scene with his debut self-titled album. The record earned him a nomination for ‘Best Male Artist’ at the 2012 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and the award for ‘Best Pop Album’ at the Waiata Māori Music Awards in the same year. He has also written and produced extensively for film and television and has worked with renowned artists such as Maisey Rika and Parris Goebel.
