New Horizon is a sultry, smooth soundscape, which takes its inspiration from artists such as Frank Ocean, Mac Miller and Daniel Caesar, and offers up a gateway into a chill-rhythmic and plutonic space.
Also inspired by MacLean’s hometown, New Horizon perfectly captures the nostalgic vibe of growing up on the seaside. It’s harmonious melodies and euphonious chorus evokes a sense of escaping the hustle and bustle of the city for the scenic coasts.
“Pukerua Bay has such an aura of vibrance. The ocean, the seagulls, the waves crashing, the salt in the air. This place is where the magic occurs,” says MacLean.
“I want New Horizon to evoke nostalgia,” he adds. “To teleport listeners to a time and place of radiance. To relive their fondest memories.”
MacLean wrote and produced New Horizon in Pukerua Bay where another local Nigel Patterson from The Black Seeds helped develop ideas in the early stages.
“The song helped me reflect on my past and change the perspective of experiences, which helped me grow, resulting in a journey of transformation, both creatively and personally,” explains MacLean.
“The Bay is where I feel most comfortable unpacking my emotions and expressing myself through music. The first ideas felt special and the song just flowed from there.”
