George After James is proud to announce his debut EP Wait for You, available on Friday 31 January, along with the release of a live video of his single, In Your Hands (You Won't Let Go), out now.
George After James is the project of James Fistonich, a guitarist and singer based in Auckland. Born in Hamilton, James Fistonich grew up in central China for his first 18 years, returning to New Zealand in 2016 to study Popular Music at the University of Auckland.
In Your Hands (You Won't Let Go) was filmed live at Red Rabbit Coffee Co. for Tone Garage's 'Garage Jam' show in October 2019. Edited by Keeley Lash. You can view it here.
Wait For You explores the thoughts and experiences of James Fistonich, as well as drawing on stories he has grown up with and wishes to retell. The rich culture he was immersed in while in China helped shape the way he views the world, often feeling caught between lands and traditions worlds apart. Whether the megacity in which he grew up, the remote Tibetan regions he frequently visited, or his home country he returned to.
His lyrics contemplate and wrestle with the theme of belonging, harkening back to people and places left behind. Also dealing with topics of war, sacrifice and loss, but offering glimmers of hope, steadfastness and peace. Intricate guitar playing, soaring vocal melodies and innovative writing combine to form detailed sonic layers that support his honest lyrical wanderings.
George After James will celebrate the release of his EP with an Auckland show on Monday 3 February at the Upper Room Basement, followed by a tour later in 2020.
Recorded at Roundhead Studios, a home in Mount Albert, and an old Newmarket warehouse. Engineered by Emily Wheatcroft-Snape, Angus Grainger, and Paddy Hill. Mixed by James Fistonich, and mastered by Oliver Harmer at The Lab Studios
