Music News - Punk It Up V First Lineup Announcement

Punk It Up V First Lineup Announcement

20 January 2020 - 0 Comments

The Punk It Up team are proud to announce the first confirmed lineups from New Zealand's best collection of new and classic punk acts for this year's not-to-be-missed extravaganza.

As previously announced, due to the overwhelming number of bands, they're gonna kick off New Zealand Music Month with a 2 night event, and as per last year's sold out gig, it's at NZ's birthplace of punk, Zwines, or more correctly - The Bluestone Room in Auckland's CBD on Friday May 1st and Saturday May 2nd.

Also, as well as separate night tickets available, each online ticket page also has an option for a 2 night ticket, because we assume with such great lineups already on each night, most punters will be going to both nights... plus we don't expect any tickets available on the door on either night, because this event always sells to capacity well before the date, so don't be a slack mo**erfu***r, get your ticket asap!

Punk It Up V has lined up the following acts so far, and even though we're still finishing off details with a couple of other top acts, the list of confirmed bands already on the hook for bringing you a night of top flight rock'n'roll is pretty impressive indeed.

We'll update the lineups once our crack team of punk scene negotiators finish plying the last few bands with pints of beer down at the local...

Friday night brings you the classic sounds of The Bludgers, The Barbs and perennial crowd favourites Proud Scum, some "in your face" shenanigans from current noise merchants Dick Move, and a band who hasn't graced a stage for over a few decades, especially reforming for PIU V only, The Instigators.

Saturday night continues the stellar lineups, with performances by The Bombers, one of Hamilton's current finest bands - Contenders, the well known yee-haa, yippe-aye-yay of The Johnnys, and one last final appearance from Auckland's very own No Tag.

Closing both nights, as is tradition with Punk It Up, will be bankRobbers, the all star covers band with X-Features/Fetus Productions musical guru Jed Town, No Tag's Andrew Boak, The Bombers' Shamus O'Brien, and X-Features drummer Chris King.

They'll be making you pogo the night away with some well known covers, from both New Zealand and overseas punk bands, and will be joined by a plethora of guests from the NZ punk scene including Sonya Waters and Ed Geddes (The Instigators), Nick Hansen (Spelling Mistakes), Dean Martelli and Chris Orange (Terrorways/X-Features/Rebel Truce), with Dean playing his Burns Flyte guitar, that graced the cover of the essential NZ album AK79, and was recently re-purchased by Dean thanks to a very successful crowd-funding effort.

Put all that together with a massive lineup of DJs including Dubhead, Miss Dom, Phil A, R.G. Bargy, Wastemaster, Johnny & The Dambusters, and many more, playing everything from punk to ska to reggae and anything else they want to, in between the bands (and late into the night at both night's after parties), information booths from some extremely worthy causes, and the myriad of vendors plying their wares, like band t-shirts and records etc etc, and you have a night, or in this case 2 nights, that you'll remember for a very very long time.

Tickets for each night are available now at www.undertheradar.co.nz
