NZ Country Pop Artist Grace Kelly Releases New Single 'That Girl' Ahead Of Debut EP

10 March 2020 - 0 Comments

Rising New Zealand country music singer, songwriter and musician Grace Kelly, will release her debut EP entitled before. on Thursday 26 March. But before then, Grace is giving fans a taste of what’s to come, with the release of lead single accompanied by a gorgeous video for That Girl.

WATCH THAT GIRL HERE

A sparkling blend of catchy effervescent pop and classic country music, That Girl was inspired by a separation with a friend and delivers a strong, uplifting and positive message of personal empowerment. Written by Grace, produced by Bill Watson and recorded at Nashville Trax Recording Studio, Grace hopes that the listener will take away the message that it’s important to keep true to yourself and your values as a person.

Of That Girl, Grace says “A friend wanted me to be someone different – a quieter, less outgoing, less confident, less me! No one should be able to change you because it doesn’t suit them. Personalities clash sometimes and that’s what happened between us, but ultimately I wasn’t going to dull myself down for her. Not everyone will like you and that’s ok because you can’t keep remoulding yourself to fit a version of yourself that’s not authentic, or easy, or real. It’s better to know who you are and the people that love you will stay, and the people that don’t like you aren’t meant to be in your life for a reason.”

This is an ethos that shines bright in this radiant young woman and coupled with her refreshingly breezy presence, strong voice and musical talent, marks her as an ascending star on the rise.

Grace burst onto the scene after a remarkable opportunity set her on an epic path of amazing experiences in a very short period of time. 2019 was a whirlwind year for her, with Californian city San Jose choosing her song San Jose as their theme song and pushing her into the limelight. The song has now hit over 50,000 streams on Spotify and you can watch the charming video HERE.

Following on from the release of San Jose, the momentum also started building rapidly on the live front, with highlights from last year including opening for country music giant and television personality Blake Shelton, and being able to perform on the same bill as country music singers Eric Paslay, Phil Barton and Taylor Swift’s songwriter Liz Rose.

Grace’s songs are heavily influenced by the Nashville music scene and her love of county/pop music, and at still just 17 years old, these passions are providing her with a backdrop to share her coming of age life experiences. Having now recorded several times in Nashville, the EP before. features some of Nashville’s most talented musicians: the 2019 CMA Musician of the Year Jenee Fleenor - Fiddle and Mandolin (Blake Shelton), T Wild – Guitar (Carly Simon); David Northrup – Drums (Boz Scaggs); Steve King – Keyboards (Keith Urban), and Jim Riley – drummer (Rascal Flatts).

In 2020 Grace’s light continues to shine as she follows her dreams with purposeful intent and all guns blazing - starting with celebrating the release of before. Featuring 5 original country-pop songs, before. reveals a true talent not just for catchy choruses but also for honesty and telling it like it is through great story-telling, - which as any lover of country music knows, is key.

Meanwhile Grace is keeping the momentum building, and to mark the release of before., she will perform a series of intimate release shows at the end of the month at the following venues:

Sunday 29th March - Leigh Sawmill Café, Leigh

Monday 30th March – The Portland Public House, Kingsland, Auckland

Friday 3rd April – Partners In Crime, Parnell, Auckland
