Pipsy drops the brand new Toronto EP today via Warhammer Kid Records (AUS/NZ).
The Toronto EP is a short album that plays as a journey - quickly traversing the sprawling sonic landscape of Pipsy’s diverse indie-pop sound.
Founded in the sensibilities of heavier rock bands of the nineties, but mixed with an unmistakably breezy pop sound - Pipsy have been wowing crowds across Australia with material from the new EP since their founding in 2016 in Melbourne, Victoria, with a new lineup of Shane Hellyer on bass, Dan Hoffman on drums, and Paul (Pipsy) on guitar and vocals.
Originally coming out of the DIY Dunedin indie-pop music scene and born in Otatara, New Zealand, Paul of Pipsy’s musical career has taken him across the world - from North America, to Australia, and on multiple tours of his native New Zealand. Paul has appeared on TV’s 7 Days and performed as an emerging artist at Brisbane festival Big Sound with pop-troubadours Males, while charting in the Top Ten in NZ as a producer (Julian Temple Band's Ceiling in the Sky 2015; Ragged's Bones 2016).
Pipsy’s earlier work includes the blistering 2018 garage-pop debut Users, described as: "21 minutes of foot-tapping, high energy, indie surf pop punk" (NZ Musician). The last release - a 2019 compilation of B-Sides and Singles entitled the Strung Out EP - was described as "exploding with jangly and infectious indie-rock hooks" (Hhhhappy Magazine). Singles I Miss My Friends and Rosanna have received NZ On Air new tracks rotation.
