It is Tuesday 9th May - Day #9 of NZ Music Month 2006.
The second series of TV1s Give It A Whirl NZ music documentaries started a couple of weeks ago. This coming Saturday at 9.45 clock into TV1 at 9.45 for a lesson on pop music in Aoatearoa in the 80s… mullets, leg warmers, shoulder pads, bubble skirts and all.
This Friday night the Pacific Music Awards are taking place at the Genesis Theatre, TelstraClear Pacific in Manukau City. The finalists have been announced and performing at the awards will be Savage, Aaradhna, Dei Hamo, Spacifix and Sara-Jane Auva'a. Tickets are on sale now and available to the public from TicketDirect.
Also this Friday, Hollie Smith and Olmecha Supreme are performing at Concert for Peace. The concert will celebrate the International Conference on Peace and Disarmament taking place in the capital over the two days following the concert. It kicks off at 8pm with a Radio Active DJ spinning kiwi tracks in honour of NZ Music Month.
Today Dunedin’s Radio One kicked off their 100% NZ Music Week. Tune in for live to airs each night from 6:30pm, giveaways and of course the best kiwi tunes.
Auckland City Libraries kicked off their month of activities with a performance by The Septembers at Central City Library where the music travelled over all 3 floors! Over the course of May they will host over 50 bands at 17 libraries around Auckland. The best part is that they are free… and you get to get a bit rowdy in a library. SkyCity are hosting a bunch of great performers throughout the month of May. Wander along for free performances by Jordan Luck, Che Fu, Adeaze, Ardijah, Donald Reid, Nesian Mystik, Goldenhorse and Katchafire.
Children’s show Studio 2 is getting into the swing of things. Last week they held a NZ Music Month party with a performance by ZAP and Spacifix and this Friday the team are at it again with a performance by Aaradhna at 4.30pm on TV2. Later in the month there will also be performances by Goodnight Nurse, DJ CXL and Melodic Cru.
And for those of you more prone to hanging out on the couch, the Juice TV Live to Airs were filmed last week. Bands’ performances will be screened over the last couple of weeks of May, with shows from the likes of Minuit, dDub, Sarah Brown, Opensouls, Aaradhna, Don McGlashan, Nesian Mystik, Donald Reid, Stylus, Autozamm, One Million Dollars and Boh Runga.
