One Million Dollars was an Auckland-based soul-jazz collective with a reputation for energetic live performances. One Million Dollars plays all original songs, with a sound combining elements of 70's soul, funk and bossa nova, built around the songwriting skills of singer/guitarist Richard Setford. With four horns, multipart vocals and occasional lyrics in Brazilian Portuguese, the ten-piece band has brought a fresh perspective to the New Zealand music scene
Live highlights for the band have included the 2003 True Colours event where they shared the bill with several of New Zealand's other top acts; The Lord of The Rings, Two Towers premiere in Wellington 2003 where they played for the assembled national and international guests; Vibes on a Summers Day 2003 with international acts such as Masters at Work, Jazzanova and Mr Scruff; Support for the Black Eyed Peas during their 2002 visit; And also many gigs within New Zealand with popular acts such as TrinityRoots, Rhombus, SJD, Fat Freddy's Drop, Che Fu and The Krates, Subware, Goldenhorse and Stellar*.
Tom also plays drums for Breaks Co-op, Foghorn, HMX, The Roughness and has played for SJD.
One Million Dollars disbanded in early 2008.
