Goatrider was simply a wild combination of varied influences. The lead guitarist and drummer wanted to sound like The Smiths or Elvis Costello. The rhythm guitarist wanted to sound grungy. The brass player wanted to sound like Seals & Croft. The bass player had a variety of influences. The lead vocalist simply wanted Goatrider to be the most outrageous band of all time and resembled a fire-eating combination of Screaming Jay Hawkins, Shane McGowan and G.G. Allin.
1990 - First formed as a 4-piece (Darryl Ward, Tim Roper, Mike Kelly, Laurence Driscoll), played first gigs
1991 - Mike Kelly left, replaced with Paul Donovan
1992 - Line-up expanded to include Michelle Kroemburg. Simon De Boer recruited as manager.
Band suffers major loss when Paul's car is broken into after a gig and the band's goat and synthesiser are stolen. Synthesiser is later recovered.
Line-up expanded to include Don Bain
1993 - Darryl accidentally sets himself on fire at the end of what seemed to be the band's last ever gig.
2002 - Band makes surprise re-appearance with an acoustic gig (Line-up: Darryl, Tim and Paul).
