Forbidden Joe

Bio

"With their eclectic repertoire of traditional and original music, Forbidden Joe are coming to town to entertain you with their "wicked new folk sound".

Already being hailed by New Zealand’s folk scene as "the next big thing," Forbidden Joe’s dynamic arrangements and funky grooves, spiced with influences of Jazz, Celtic, European, and Soul make for a quirky show of songs and tunes.

The cheeky and effervescent Frances Dickinson heads the line up (hailed by Alice Murray of bFM as an "up and coming folk superstar") with smouldering vocals and fiery concertina. Alongside Frances, the versatile and soulful grooves of Emily Giles (Cello/Vocals) and the crankin riffs of Alex Borwick
(Banjo/Trombone/Vocals) complete this-one-of-kind musical menagerie."

Band Members:
Frances Dickinson (vocals, concertina, dunbeq, bodhran, fiddle)
Emily June Giles (cello, vocals)
Alex Borwick (banjo, trombone, vocals)

This from Forbidden Joe:

Good day everyone,

As we're sitting here in truly typical Wellington weather (wind to break your umbrella and rain to soak you to the bones) we'd like to let you know about more radio things in the works.

Firstly - tomorrow, at 1:10pm, we're being interviewed on Concert FM. You can find the frequency for your area at http://www.radionz.co.nz/concert/home.

If you missed out on our Friday interview on National Radio, you can listen to the podcast: http://www.radionz.co.nz/audio/national/aft/2008/10/17/nz_live_-_forbidden_joe.

We're really looking forward to see some of you lovely people at the Wellington Folk Festival this weekend, hopefully it's not too wet! We've packed our gumboots just in case...

And thanks to those who were at the Mayfair last night, it was a lovely night Happy

Joe love comin' your way!

Forbidden Joe

All please gather around closely for the latest FJ update, we don't want anyone else hearing about it....

We are being interviewed on National Radio on Friday October 17 at 1:15 by Jim Mora. Go see http://www.radionz.co.nz/ to find frequency information for your specific area. There's also an online Live Audio Stream on the website. We'll be talking all about our upcoming EP, as well as performing a few tracks live in the studio.

Next week's going to be fun: we're playing at the Upper Hutt Folk Club on Tuesday October 21. It happens at the Mayfair Cafe, 116 Main St, Upper Hutt. The first half starts at 8pm, we'll be on around 9:15pm.

After that, we're spending a couple of days hanging out in Wellington, doing some promo for the CD. And then, on the weekend....

The Wellington Folk Festival. For all the information about this event, go to http://www.wellingtonfolkfestival.org.nz/. We're doing a workshop on the Saturday morning, a concert on Sunday morning, and performing in the final concert on the Sunday night. The festival runs from October 24 - 27 and is held at the Brookfields Outdoor Education Centre, Wainuiomata, Wellington.

For those of you not in Wellington, pass the message on to those who you think might take an interest...

Stay tuned for more breaking news!
