Ruby Frost burst onto the scene in 2009 when she won the New Zealand-wide 'MTV 42Unheard' artist search. From here, she signed with Universal and began work on her debut album Volition. She's honed her songwriting skills over the years to develop her own brand of left-leaning pop... with sparkling vintage synths and distinctive vocals.
Frost has always been a writer - she won the Grand Prize of the 2010 John Lennon Songwriting Competition's Pop Category, has been shortlisted for a NZ Silver Scroll Award, and been placed as a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. Her song O That I Had was remixed by Kiwi dubstep group Mt Eden and quickly received over 1 million YouTube hits.
She's toured with Garbage, Mt Eden, Cut Copy and Evermore; and has opened for a long list of acts including Kimbra, Fun, Diplo and Digitalism. Her debut single Moonlight charted in the bFM Top 10 for 10 weeks straight, and her song Water To Ice went to #3 of the NZ Singles Chart.
She explains, "After working on lots of co-writes overseas, I felt a really strong pull to come home and write my new music alone, stripping everything back and starting from scratch on my instruments. I've spent the past few years building a collection of songs that I love, recording them with producer Joseph Faris (Ezra Vine). I'm excited to start sharing music again."
