Martin Phillipps and The Chills started out as part of the first wave of Nun bands whose sound became popular on the American college circuit in the mid 80's.
The Chills have undergone many lineup changes over the last 25 years but are still going strong with the ever talented Martin as the glue that binds them.
Martin started out playing in The Same, a punk band in 1980 playing mostly covers.
As The Chills went through their different incarnations they released plenty of singles but it wasn't until 1986 when U.K. label Creation released their first album Kaleidoscope World.
Seven more releases followed including the hugely popular Heavenly Pop Hit and the highly sought after Secret Box (3CD) 2001 20th Anniversary rarities collection.
Martin Phillips has dedicated his life to his music and continues to play with the current lineup of The Chills.
He has always been an avid supporter of local music and is hugely respected as a living legend of the "Dunedin Sound".
