Many Tentacles were a two piece band from Hamilton. Made up of drums, guitar and vocals, the result was really good punk rock. Many Tentacles played live shows in Hamilton and Auckland before heading their seperate ways.
Members of Many Tentacles have history with other acts on Carteco and with members of other acts on Carterco, and members of other act's that aren't on Carterco but members of the act are in a band on Carterco now. Jared (guitar and vocals) was in the band The Aroused, and Andrew (drums) was in Apathy Inc., an old Gisborne band (with great song TV Friends), with Scholnicks (and TK421) member, Res Rapid.
Many Tentacles formed when Jared moved up to Hamilton to attend University, Andrew was already up there, so they created Many Tentacles. Many Tentacles' first (and only) album 'Tears, Blood, Broken Glass' is available on the menu. It contains 8 great songs, recorded at the very end of 1999.
Drummer Andrew has an online zine called Vortex.
The following is a review taken from the Noisy Neighbours section of the Real Groove September 2000.
"Fleding labels with interesting taste in new musical artistry, whether innovative or endearingly derivative, should never be ignored- look at Virgin Records, for one (if it wasn't for Tubular Bells and the Sex Pistols...) Hence, local label Carterco is on the stand with Many Tentacles, a Hamilton-based, punk rock duo (in a 1977 for 2000 stylee). Punk is still alive and well-measured in New Zealand, as Tears Blood Broken shows. Over eight tunes, Many Tentacles deliver some brutally simple emotions and outlooks, with short, sharp thrusts and suprisingly fresh aplomb. Enjoy the '3 Dollar Trousers' song or the 'Kim Gordon Lunge". Punk- it's not a lost art."
