Originally formed in Queenstown by longtime friends during high school are Haven, consisting of bassist and vocalist Ryan Connaghan, guitarist Tyrone Henderson, and drummer Harrison Maguire. After leaving their hometown, the band have been making a name for themselves in Wellington with their hook-filled pop rock sound. The songs, written by Ryan, are lyrically inspired by the honest and charming work of artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Stella Donnelly, and Matty Healy of The 1975 whilst sonically taking notes from the current and infectious indie-pop sound. The band effectively performs these songs during their high-energy and tight live shows.
Haven’s upwards trajectory can already be seen, with the band playing at Greenstone Entertainment’s Gibbston Valley Concert alongside legendary New Zealand legacy acts such as Hello Sailor and Dragon. Additionally, they have appeared as special guest acts for Smokefree Rockquest events all across the North Island -- a competition they competed in during high school merely a year ago (of which they were national runners-up two years running). The band’s followers, who were eagerly awaiting the release of Haven’s music, were rewarded in March of 2021 with The Right Way, a catchy and upbeat summer pop rock tune. With the band’s ever-growing fanbase, building momentum, and upcoming sophomore single Spotlight, Haven are sure to be Aotearoa New Zealand’s next stellar band.
