Noise is an experimental art-rock six-piece, founded in New York City and based in Wellington, New Zealand. Fronted by Will Marshall, a songwriter and producer with a swaggering, articulate baritone, Noise work with a palette borrowed from contemporary art-rock, modernist poetry, the weirder edges of electronic music, indie pop and post-punk.
Noise’s music is cerebral, contemplative, and sometimes bitingly aggressive. They move seamlessly between spacious post-rock compositions, tight garage rock grooves, and deep trip-hop, constructing vivid musical backdrops to Will’s blackly comic narratives.
Noise began as collaboration between Will and NY guitarist Kyle Hussa-Lietz, of post-rock project Cavallo, but when pandemic sent Will back to NZ he assembled a new incarnation - a fusion of diverse talent from local Wellington musicians.
