Frances Libeau (fka Claire Duncan; they/them) is an interdisciplinary artist from Aotearoa New Zealand.
Their sound designs, film/commercial compositions, videos and writing leak through the formal demarcations of discipline into realms of moving image, screen sonics, composition, poetry, music, and live art.
Libeau‘s work often explores the aesthetic and affective possibilities of found/foraged materials, with a focus on appropriated/misused technologies and (post/un) human epistemologies.
Their ongoing recorded and performance project i.e. crazy explores the boundaries of civilised behaviour through exploratory modes of aural collage and narrative folksong.
Libeau’s work has been exhibited in galleries, films and events worldwide, and their writing has appeared in Overland, Poetry New Zealand, Le Roy, Pantograph Punch, The Spinoff and more.
