Jessie James are supported by an impressive band of Outlaws. Comprising members of members from Hikoikoi, Fly My Pretties, Spartacus R and the Dunstan Rangers, and these questions were answered for muzic.net.nz:
How do you come up with your lyrics?
A few lines often come to me walking down the road or riding my bike, then I pick them up, or kick them off my bike. I then sit down with the guitar and find the chords to fit the melody I've come up with and go from there, usually writing all or most of the lyrics/song in one go.
Who would you most like to support live?
Gillian Welsh and David Rowlings, She is one of the best song writers of our time, David and her work together so well. Every song they write is a timeless classic. I think the Outlaws kaumatua Paddy Burgin would agree.
How do you describe your music?
I've been calling it electric folk and country lately, the best way to describe rather traditional songs that get arranged and played by a psychedelic band.
What is your favourite NZ venue?
Mussel Inn hands down, you are guaranteed a wicked crowd there, who are ready for a good time and up for anything! The hospitality there is unmatched in New Zealand, well the Leigh Sawmill is similar actually. Killer feed, keen sound tech with good gear, and a night in the family log cabin out the back - all set in the glorious golden bay!
What is in your CD collection at home?
I recently got a big insurance pay out after losing most of my CD collection when our car got broken into (not to mention all the other gear they took!), so I had a masssssive splurge which was amazing! I bought up large on kiwi music, albums I'd always meant to buy but never got around to..... Little Bushman, every Phoenix Foundation album, Tessa Rain, Ladi6 and more. But Its largely made up of Neil Young, Gillian Welch, Johnny Cash and Tracey Chapman. Actually, I mostly own vinyl, reggae of course. I won't start listing, it's too good, you'd be jealous.
What is your favourite place in NZ to be?
Thats a very hard question. On the road somewhere awesome, in summer. New Chums in the Coromandle is up there - potutukawa lined golden sand bay, clear warm water, a stream, nikau groves up the back. Otherwise I quite like my parents lawn, with a good lunch and a cat to pat.

About Jessie James & The Outlaws
Being Outlaws, they don’t like to be pinned down, but can be described as alt- electric folk reminicent of late 60’s and 70’s folk, pop and pyschedila Think Neil Young, the Phoenix Foundation and Gillian Welch.
The powerful songs heard in The Price of Gum were formed out of a deep musical relationship between songwriter and singer Jessie Moss and co-producer, arranger, and pianist James Coyle.
