Leeches - Leeches Newsletter Interview

05 Jun 2011 // An interview by Shade

What can we expect to see from Leeches over the next year?

Hopefully a full length CD and lots of shows!

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

Just to work hard, nothing gets handed to you.

Who are your favourite NZ musicians/bands, and why?

There are so many; Nothing At All were always one of my faves, Missing Teeth and Cobra Khan.

What will Leeches’ next release be?

Maybe the full length by the end of this year, maybe…

How do you come up with your lyrics?

Just based on different situations and how I feel at the time.

Who would you most like to support live?

The Bronx.

How do you believe Leeches fits into the NZ music industry?

By being a kickass live band.. we aint the most commercial band, but then again when was being safe a good thing?

What can you never leave home without?

My comb. Haha.

How do you describe Leeches’ music?

Punk/hardcore crossover.. who knows whatever.

What is your favourite NZ venue?

Revolver in Queenstown.

What is the best part of being a musician?

Having fun with your mates making great music,

What NZ musicians or bands would you like to see more of, and why?

I'd like to see Dion Palmer from The D4 come here with A Place To Bury Strangers (the band he plays bass in now) cos they kick serious ass.

What is in your CD collection at home?

Everything from Bad Brains to Nirvana to Dean Martin.

What is your most embarrassing on tour/gig moment?

Prob nearly getting killed when I fell off a a quad bike on a Bleeders tour in Wanaka.

What is your favourite place in NZ to be?

Queenstown.

What inspired you to start Leeches?

To make balls to the wall fast punky shit again.

How did you come up with the name Leeches?

I think it was just based on people beeing Leeches, it kinda describes society in general.

What is the best gig you have ever performed at, and why?

Supporting AFI all over Australia and NZ.. cos they were one of my fave bands growing up and it was a dream come true.

How do you keep in contact with your fans?

Facebook.

What rumour would you like to start about Leeches?

That we are every bit as good as the Bleeders were! Haha.

About Leeches

Leeches was formed in March 2010 when members of now defunct Bleeders Angelo and Ian returned home from Canada. Wanted to do somthing new musically but somthing still a little familiar they have returned to their roots with a vision of the melodic Punk/Hardcore crossover that had been so successfull in their past. They recruited current band members Sam Crocker (Antagonist A.D), Little Dan (Brick vs Face, Die Alone) and Jaden (Goodnight Nurse) to get the ball rolling.

Since starting the writing process, Jaden's hectic schedule has meant Ben (The Chase) has had to step in to play drums.

Leeches hope to bring the frantic and raw live energy that is missing so bad right now back into the NZ music scene.
