SPLOREific, SPLOREtastic, if you ever get the chance to exSplore SPLORE do it!!!
Splore is not your average music festival. It is filled with so much atmosphere and excitement all in one venue that your vocabulary will be void of words like boredom, monotony and tiredness. The whole festival is like an exploding rainbow colliding with an earthy musical genius in a superhuman rubber suit.
Highs and Lows… oh wait, there really were no lows, sooo….
Highs -
Eric Orr creating the Splore-City backdrop in the Town Hall entrance, using old school graffiti in the form of fluro bubble lettering which is the introduction of more to come inside. Walking in the door surpassed expectations of a normal music festival and gave you so much more. The bright colours and art were not just limited to entry, there were physical artists outside to be painted, under the guiding light of the skytower, which was just as brightly coloured. Being in the heart of Auckland it was appropriate that most people’s painting originated with a heart and brought about all sorts of forms of expression and inspiration for an enjoyable mind opening experience.
The musical phenomenon that is Splore combines both local and overseas acts that all share a passion for creating a lively musical experience. New Zealand’s own Fly my pretties and Coast set the tone which was hyped by the bootilicious Goddess that is Kelis and American soul crooner Mayer Hawthorne who serenaded me and made me fall in love with his voice after just one song. Those are only just a few of the many acts to be viewed throughout the festival.
Splore manages to develop and rejuvenate through two days starting at 7pm on Friday and Saturday nights, you get to listen, stomp and dance to amazing music, interact with art and artists and watch some of the most incredible aerial-acrobatic-burlesque-trapzee style body expression all in one venue. The Auckland Town Hall is one of the only places in our great country that could add to the vibe of festival because of its features. The imposing organ created a stunning visual art backdrop looking suburb next to the speakers adorned with brightly coloured leis and two levels of participation, crazy dancing or over-enthusiastic seated appreciation.
Glitter, costumes, colour and paint were all important parts of Splore, but there are other aspects of the festival brought by the participants, who are unlike a normal crowed because they used every one of the senses to be involved. The outrageousness, uniqueness and magic contrast all other festivals. Splore lives and breathes with hope, anticipation and excitement… it is a must see, must do, must experience MUST!
