Will Saunders has been in the New Zealand music scene for a while, playing in Auckland psychedelic rock outift The Quick and The Dead (as well as London trio Siren), and has been releasing material as a solo artist for the past 2 years.
His latest effort, Curious Maladies, is released under Will Saunders and the Lowest Fidelity, but don’t let the name fool you; there’s no band here, it’s just Will, a couple of guitars and a microphone.
Will’s sound is raw folk, acoustic guitar overlaid with lashings of electric guitar, and slightly distorted vocals. Where many folk albums leave the listener feeling like they’ve heard it all after a couple of tracks, Curious Maladies sounded fresh the whole way through and never seemed to lag.
This young songwriter clearly knows how to write tunes that strike a chord with the listener, and there’s a refreshing honesty and realism to his music.
At times ethereal and often melancholy, these 13 tracks are a great introduction to the music of Will Saunders and will have you looking for more from him as soon as you've finished listening to them.
The Lowest Fidelity are a 3-piece band from Auckland.
They have released one album This Is The Life and in 2016 played live support to U.S acts Fred & Toody Cole (Dead Moon) and The Reverend Horton Heat along with having previously toured with NZ bands The Situations and The Transistors.
