PNC - The Codes Album Review
PNC AKA Sam Hansen released his fifth album less than a month ago and it’s already smashing sales and tearing up the NZ charts. The album titled The Codes is our newest urban success and it seems that PNC has found his stride with his latest offering. Classified as a sort of a hip hop hybrid album with a little something for everyone but you would already know that if you have been listening to the singles as they were released. The mainstream success of NZ hip hop seems to stem from the infusion of current trends. The Codes has a definite injection of more contermporary electronic beats and embraces drum 'n' bass, dubstep, house, and is full synths and grinds as well as the bold lyrics PNC does so well.
The album kicks off with Praise and the well known 100 Cups and leads up to Ride which is being thrown around as a Song of the Year and the Sound of Summer. After the first day of release Ride had already reached Number 4 on the iTunes Hip-Hop Chart. Featuring Shapshifter's P Digsss who slams down some sweet lyrical genius and mastered by the duo of Matt Miller and State Of Mind member Patrick Hawkins. But P Digsss is not the height of collaborations on this album, there is Love Jones with Pieter T, Kobe and Lebron with David Dallas and Like a Dream featuring Tyra Hammond, which I think needs a music video. PNC also has Bailey Wiley, Nylo, and ROkske and Spycc to add depth to The Codes. The centrepiece is a soothing ballad about lost love called When I Fall Asleep so there really is something for everyone. The Codes has been released through PNC's own independent label Flair Ultra Music so go out and get it!

About PNC
He released his debut album Rookie Card in 2006, which was received with overwhelmingly positive reviews. His singles Just Roll and PN Whoa were top 20 chart hits, and Who Betta Than This was an underground smash. In 2007 he won Best Hip-Hop Album at the prestigious Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.
In 2009 he released his sophomore effort Bazooka Kid, which continued the trend of critical acclaim. It received 4 stars from the notoriously critical NZ Herald and from the Dominion Post, and a 5 star review in Real Groove magazine. His single Tonight was a radio hit and reached Top 40 chart status. In the same year his collaboration with State Of Mind City On Fire become a local and international club anthem. A true songwriter, he has writing credits on various Top 10 singles including two Number 1’s (P-Money’s Stop The Music and Everything).
