Melodic death core is how this band describes their music and they do a damn fine job at it. Coming from Hamilton these guys are fairly new on the scene but with production and content that is at the level of bands many years ahead of them. They have only just released their first album but have already done some touring with international bands and lots of local shows all on the strength of their first EP. The New Zealand metal scene is in good hands if this is the calibre of music that the youth are producing. As an old school metal head I’m proud of what younger bands are creating.
Lots of sludge, breakdowns and guttural vocals fill up this album. From the opening instrumental to the growling screams of the title track A World Left Behind this album rips out your throat and kicks you in the guts leaving you breathless. There is no let up and they steam roll through this album. With plenty of melody it has lots of to keep the head nodding and the toes tapping which is always what you want from a good metal album.
The album's theme and lyrics are a point noting as it is a mature theme looking at how we as custodians of earth are destroying the planet at an alarming rate. This is looked at as a physical thing as well as society’s destruction.
These guys show a lot of promise and I can’t wait to see them develop. They will be a force to reckon with and they give me great hope for the future of New Zealand metal. I cannot talk enough about how much New Zealand metal has improved production-wise and content-wise in the last 10 years. It’s not to say that New Zealand metal was not great before then but the standards have been raised and younger bands are flying the flag high and proud.
