Brave New Void - Album Review: BNV
I had the pleasure of
watching Brave New Void (BNV) live at bar Bodega in Wellington last year supporting
Pop Will Eat Itself (P.W.E.I.).
Now what are they like in the studio? Well this 8 track album is absolutely top class. End of review. Buy it!!

To whet your appetite with what’s on the album you can check out the video of their brilliant single The Flesh is Willing here: The Flesh is Willing. Not only is this a hit that should be on the radio every hour on every station, but the quality of the video is moody and very professionally done. The guys are very passionate about their music, and this shines through from start to finish.
There will be some obvious comparisons to Joy Division on the track The Flesh is Willing, particularly the big echo sound of the drums and the dramatic way they are beaten. The vocals on Perfect Man are very David Bowie in style which is a huge compliment to any singer. We won’t talk about Suede or Editors in detail but they are certainly in the mix somewhere.
Overall all of the tracks have a very distinct full sound and are all different in style making you want to peak around the corner to see what’s coming next. My only criticism would be that I want more songs on the album, however this does make you play it again straight away.
My favourite song is the last song on the album Change The Skyline. I hate the word ballad, but that is what it is. The guitaring on this track and the entire album in fact, are played so well with great effects too. They echo and swirl and are full of loneliness and despair. All this from a guitar, and effects pedals, brilliant.
