Sacha Vee - Album Review: Luminous

05 Nov 2016 // A review by Freecell

Returning home after touring and collaborating with some of the top players in the international scene from Europe, Sacha Vee returns with her new 13 track album Luminous, which is being released on the 25 November 2016. Sacha has recently teamed up with Dutch producer Killing Skills and Chef Red recording and releasing EP's and she has also supported G Eazy and Shapeshifter.

As soon as you press play you are transported to the future soul train with her husky voice on Caught Up, complete with interesting sound effects and alluring musical arrangements. This is a hip-hop track infused with unique new genres of Future and Neo Soul.

The music production on Stonecold alone could be a hit in itself, with catchy beats and solid baselines and impressive synths similar to Disclosure. But when Sacha Vee's voice comes in, it completely takes this song somewhere else - time to get your dance on!

My second favourite, Sail Away, isn't a dancing track but it has a nice sound. It makes me think if I had this track on a 7" vinyl, I would put it on the record player and put it on repeat, drop everything and simply go float away with the clouds and rainbows. With smooth and dreamy vocals with lots of reverb, delay and sustain.

The Brass instruments on Monday (prod. Moods) sounds uplifting and makes you want to shake your hips with a Fat Freddy's Drop vibe. A mix of slow songs and dance tracks. The intro of My Way reminds me of Flume. Sacha's unique voice transforms its role to suit and perfect the song and the story she is trying to capture.

Feels Good sounds very Kiwi and it reminds me of a Che Fu hip-hop beat. It's also her second release off the album, with her soothing vocals mesmerizing. A love song, this could potentially be used for a first wedding dance.

Light Of Day has an alluring offbeat drumbeat and baseline and brilliant soulful vocals - reminding me of Jamiroquai.

Sacha completely transforms the rework track GING into her own with class, a refreshing version if not better! introspective and otherwordly.. there is future Jazz infused songs towards the end of the album. Which takes merit as Jazz is all about riding the random offbeat grooves.

But my favourite track is Music Child with its charismatic Jazz guitar strumming with a dubstep/ future garage drumbeat, a Jazz piano blanket and sweet lyrics and vocal experimentation this song is impressive!

It is clear that the very talented Sacha Vee has been very busy with this production as every corner is polished and the whole album sounds fresh and timeless.

This album is worthy of NZ music awards and global stardom. An outstanding and compelling album, which is highly addictive.
